Examples of my Process:
When planning a painting in oil or acrylic, I usually do a drawing first which allows me to study my subject in detail, as well as the basic elements of composition and form with respect to lighting.
My painting may be very closely associated with the drawing or I may decide to eliminate some of its details. I do not transfer my drawing onto a larger canvas nor do I use a grid; therefore, I may need to make some changes. At other times, I simply do a sketch for a portrait of a person with no regard to background or surroundings. This allows me to create a setting around my subject as I develop my painting.
